The Secret Life of Charlie

We've been lucky to have Charlie the guinea pig visit us for a few days this week. I wonder what he gets up to when we all go home. Probably just goes to sleep in his cage ….

Our Cat's Pyjamas

We love the book 'The Cat's Pyjamas' by Catherine Forman so much that we decided to design our own pyjamas for the cat.

Snails

In Room 1 we've been going snail crazy!  It's been fun finding out about these slimy little creatures. Here's a video of an experiment we did to find out what snails can move on.
( No snails were harmed in the making of this movie )

Our mural

The theme this year at Newmarket Primary has been Taonga - a treasured thing. This term we've been talking about our environment as a Taonga. In room 1 we talked about what made our school special with regards to the environment.  We came up with lots of ideas and decided to make a mural to express how our school is a Taonga. The children painted a rainbow to start the mural off.  Here's Ethan and Nicolas hard at work.

We've been talking about shapes in Room 1. We noticed that there seemed to be shapes everywhere so decided to go on a hunt around the school and see how many we could find.

Bubbles!

We decided it was good bubble blowing weather so we set about designing bubble wands from pipe cleaners. Then, armed with detergent we headed for the field to test them out.
Would our bubble wands work?
Would our bubbles all be the same size and shape?
Where would they go once we had blown them?
Would we hear them pop?
For the answers to these and other bubble related questions watch this short movie and see how it all turned out.
